Active Minerals Announces Expansion of Attapulgite Facility

Addition of a Second Processing Line Will Double Capacity

Sparks, MD/Houston, TX – May 1, 2023 – Active Minerals International, LLC (AMI), a major supplier of gellant attapulgite clay, announced it has begun construction and installation of a second production line at its Climax, GA processing plant. The facility expansion is forecasted to double production capacity with the line addition and expanded crude storage area.

Construction began in January 2023 and is expected to be on-line in early summer. With this expansion AMI will ensure its long history of consistently supplying quality gellant attapulgite products. Vice President of Operations Chuck Pettit notes, “The new production line will operate side by side but independently from the existing line. This redundancy improves supply reliability for our customers.”

Gel quality attapulgite produced by Active Minerals is sold globally to a diverse market base. Many customers rely on the rheological benefits and suspension, binding, and adsorption performance properties of this clay mineral. Brad Casper, AMI President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, “In addition to better serving current markets, AMI’s investment in attapulgite capacity supports our commitment to product innovation.  That effort kicked off with the January opening of AMI’s Research & Development Innovation Center in Houston.” The company is well positioned to keep up with the expanding demand that will come with new attapulgite product development.

Ground breaking for the expansion.
